Flower pots. You can get a couple of large flower pots and some potting soil, then plant two or three different herbs in each pot. The variety will look really pretty and the small size of the garden (pots vs. half the backyard) will be easy to maintain.
what herbs do you cook with? Parsley sage rosemary thyme, basil, coriander? Plant what you normally eat, and the herbs that you usually cook with. If you like corn, plant that. Tomatoe? Plant that. Carrots? Peas? The seed packs have a wealth of info on the back of the package. you need to seed your garden after the soil warms up, and no chance of frost. Putting it near a water supply helps as well.
