I have to redo the rope in my sash window can I use cable instead?

My husband sometimes uses chain but I like the clothesline much better. You must knot the rope but maybe with cable you can use one of those clamp fasteners.
Cable is not flexible enough to turn around the roller. That's why the use rope or chain in the old days.
