How to fix a luan door?

I have an 80's vintage luan door with an unusual with that has damaged veneer. Any ideas on how to repair?

Luan doors are not terribly expensive. Your local buliding materials supplier can provide you with a replacement door. They will tell you what measurments they need and will provide you with an exact match to the damaged door . You will then swap out the existing hardware and hang the new door.
