Has spread very quickly and is taking over the grass which we need for feed - how do we deal with this?

You need an answer specific to your location, which you did not share. Call your local county extension agent. This is how you find their office:

You say you need it for feed, so I gather you are running animals on it. Be careful what you put on the field that it doesn't hurt the animals. Yes - contact your County Agricultural Extension office they can tell you the best thing to do.
I have - they have no real answer other than trying all the different herbicides for broadleaf weeds - which we have done and have not found any that have a great result!
