Our Keurig coffee maker came with the parts needed to clean the unit and instructions. If yours didn't, most likely anywhere that sells the machines will have the parts to clean it with. Running vinegar through it isn't a bad idea, as long as it gets rinsed out real well. I have heard of some who did that and their coffee had vinegar smell and taste.
Keyring has a descaling solution. Target sells it.
You can run white vinegar through it and wipe it out with a damp clean rag. Throw out the vinegar after it is pumped through. This will do most the cleaning for you. CHeck the basket area, everything, wipe down the sides and every open area you can. It is not hard and the vinegar will do most the work. Run 2 or 3 loads of filtered water through it after the vinegar so your coffee does not taste like vinegar. I save this water for my plants. Use filtered water for coffee if you have lots of minerals in your water system.

Spring Cleaning My Keurig Coffee Pot
Can't answer question but saw on NBC Nightly News where the Keurig coffeemakers have started fires. I would unplug it when not in use.
