I'd call your local college extension. There are beautiful hedges in the median between N. and S. Lanes of a highway we were once on. It may have been E to West, but I remember my mom saying they were beautiful, but poisonous. Another good place to ask this question is a local nursery. Ask how tall and how wide the bushes grow. Also, ask how invasive it is. You don't want your whole yard taken over with runners or seedlings.
honesty everything in landscape will need maintenance....http://askthegreengenie.com/hedge-ideas/
You must be talking about Oleander- yes they are poisonous
