What is the surface of the door? Wood? Metal? Any paint retailer will have the appropriate formula primer and paint for doors, make sure it has UV protection too. And clean thoroughly before priming!
The prep work done before painting is the MOST important part. 2nd is a good quality paint. A light sanding, a good primer, followed by a good quality paint. Myself, I like "Kils" oil base primer, an non oil base paint can be used on "Kils" as long as it's done in less than 7 days.

Just know that when you paint the door and it is pristine looking.... the shutters on the house may beg for the same treatment.
We painted our door and shutters and it gave our 25 year old home a nice pick-me-up.
So, buy extra paint to make sure you can match it up if some other item begs for paint :)
