do you also spray water before the second coat?
What technique are you using?
Hello Darlene. You never spray water on your furniture before applying the first coat of varnish or paint. Not sure where you obtained that inaccurate information. For your convenience I provided a beginners guide to painting your furniture. Please click on the link below to view it. Good luck!

Your furniture should be dry not wet. I have never heard of such a thing.
ok so what exactly are you trying to do?what paint are you using?
I have painted many pieces of furniture and have never sprayed water on them be for I paint them. I alway sand then wipe down with damp cloth then use a primer, let That dry then paint. lightly sand and paint second coat. Lightly sand again and if needed paint a third coat. Do this until you are sadified with the results. Finished up.with either a wax, varnish or sealer of your choic.
SPRAY WATER? WHY? Prime with a stain blocking primer then just paint. Seal with at least three coats of a water based polyurethane.
I have never sprayed water on furniture before painting. DONT SPRAY WATER ON THE PIECE OF FURNITURE.
Actually, no. The wood has to be dry and spraying water will raise part of the grain in the wood. Then you would have to sand it flat.
She is painting fabric...all together different than wood furniture. Darlene, I am not sure of the water but I have read hints where when the first coat is dry, you lightly sand the fabric...lightly....then put a second coat on. Then when it is very, very dry....put a coat of paste wax on it. Polish it then as you would any other waxed object. That should give you the softness (?) you need. I imagine if you google "painting fabric" you will find out all the particulars.
