The best time to plant azaleas is in late spring or early fall. Evergreen azaleas do well in partial shade with some wind protection.
Agree with Jennifer. Late spring or early fall gives the roots time to get settled while the earth is still cool, but not frosty.
As long as the threat of frost is over they can go outside.
