I like to use pole sockets: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-5-16-in-Heavy-Duty-White-Closet-Pole-Sockets-2-Pack-HD-0010-WT/205561117 . Measure width, cut pole to fit, install sockets, insert pole, voila!
Step by step instructions.

Do make sure to have a middle support! Clothes are heavy and you don't want it falling down in the middle of the night and scaring you to death! Been there, done that! Try to get the support into a stud, if needs be, put up a piece of lumber to attatch to the stud, then the support to the lumber. No one EVER complained that something was TOO SECURE!
The easiest method is to put a 2 x 4 piece on the wall with a semi circle carved out of it on the top side. Make the circle slightly larger than the pole is in diameter. The pole will rest on the sound boards nailed to the inside of the walls of the closet on each end, if that makes sense.
Jacx is right about having a centre support. These can be the commonly found back-wall mounted triangular brackets, or also ceiling mounted, if the pole is heigher, without a top shelf. It is important that all hardware be anchored securely into a solid backing, or, if you are lucky to find 2x4's, directly into those.
Side wall round pole inserts come in plastic, or metal, with varying numbers of screw holes.
Be sure to use a level to ensure that the pole is not slanted.
These are awesome you just figure out where you want your bar in your closet. Then put an anchor in the wall unless your screwing the piece into a stud. Then screw the solid round one on the wall. Second put the other one with the open top one up. Having a bare long enough to fit into the solid round one and fits nicely enough to slide down into the open bracket snug enough not to fall out. I forgot to say the wood bars look and work well with these., looks like a dowel rod.
