Using broken tile on patio

We're taking out the well-worn, cracked tile from our kitchen. Does using the broken tile to pave our concrete patio seem like a workable idea? I hate to just have it go into the landfill.

Should be ok! as they are already cracked. A random crazy paving look or a Mosaic picture would be great. They may spall in time if exposed to frost temps, but if that happens you could always replace with other bits of tiles Have fun and dare to be unique..........

I think you will find that removing mortar from pieces of tile will be very tedious and the edges will be sharp. However, if you want to do it and have enough pieces, I see no reason why not. You may want to consider what the potential buyer (and eventually there will be one) will think of it. If you wouldn't be proud to have it, don't do it.

  • I concur with prior responses. If not for your patio, what about making plant stands or side tables? Another option is to offer to other crafters. I am on Nextdoor.com and that is how I get rid of things I have no room to store or can't use just for that very reason.

Perhaps you could buy 18” or 24” squares and use your pieces between for interest. That way, if they can’t handle the weather, you’ll only be pulling up the “grout”.
