I have an 8 yo hydrangea bush that greens up but doesn’t bloom? Why

My hydrangea bush was once a glorious bloomer. The last few years, it will green up but doesn’t bloom. If it happens to try to bloom it’s always late August/September with only a few which get zapped with a cold front. I cut it back the last two seasons to see if that would help but it hasn’t. I didn’t this year. It gets big and green and is otherwise healthy. Any suggestions?

You are cutting too late, only trim at the end odpfmthe season BEFOR the first frost
NOT REALLY AN ANSWER BUT it worked for my mother, she told her that if it did not bloom next year, out it went. It bloomed like crazy the following year and we did nothing different from the year before.
Love this response. We talk to our orchids and they seem to be going on forever.
