What's the best flower/plant to grow in Texas?

It depends somewhat on the zone you're in, but most containers in that much sun need watering frequently.
Perhaps succulents would work.
Try putting a product similar to what’s used in baby diapers...soil moist is one name it goes by, there are generics as well. I didn’t see any difference when I used both last year.
succulents, and there are a large variety of them in texture, size, color, etc. I water ours once a week on our hot deck in summer, once a month indoors in winter.

MMarigolds, petunias, always look for dwarf when planting in planters, citronella and geraniums do well for me as well.
