I only use homemade compost and bone meal as fertilizer. Chemical fertilizers are toxic when humans consume foods grown in the fertilized soil. I remember someone saying once that chemical fertilizers generally only contain nitrogen, potassium, and calcium, but the soil actually needs about 30 different nutrients to grow plants. Chemical fertilizers also deplete the soil of nutrients, change the soil's ph, and a lot of fossil fuel is unnecessarily used to create them. I make compost using leaves, coffee grounds, tea bags, vegetable and fruit peels, water, and worms. It takes a bit of work, but is so worth it. https://www.todayshomeowner.com/debate-over-organic-chemical-fertilizers/
Also, even if you are just growing flowers or trees, it is a bad idea to use chemical fertilizer, as the chemical leach into the water supply.
I use Miracle Gro, and it seems to help a lot.
