You could just keep it simple and put vinyl decalling on it
Old frames from resale shops are easy to use over the sides. If it's long and wide, you can even put a narrow shelf in the middle to break up the space (and earn extra storage).
Some people put wood around the mirror and glue it to the mirror, some people glue glass beads on them. I put a large picture frame on ours one time. Hope this gives you some ideas.
