2017 I cleaned out all closets, one per week. The fastest and easiest way is to eliminate things you don't need, clothes, decor items, etc. Items not 100% sure, I put into a container, made an inventory of the container, sealed it up and stored it in the shed, I will revisit the box in a year and either donate or use the items stored. I didn't want to take the time to make my own decor boxes, etc, I bought clear plastic bins, marked the bins for easy reference, keeping like items together. So far my system has made my closets much easier to access, I can actually find things. I try to put things back in the correct closets, etc. I also noted I am not so fast to " buy things" when shopping, knowing I will have to find space for the items and get them organized to boot. Good luck with your project, take your time and enjoy your clean and organized closets !

empty out the closet.....if its for clothes, try the clothes on if they still fit and are comfortable- keep pile. not so comfy-donate pile. linen closet i keep 4 sets of bedding for each bed in the house. 2 sets for summer, 2 sets for winter. towels and washcloths 3-4 sets for each person/per bathroom. yup we get dirty out in the gardens. utilize the space under the beds for out of season clothes.

my kitchen-what i use the most is closest to my reach-cooking pans under on the top shelf of the bottom cabinets, lowest shelves of the upper cabinets, for plates glasses etc. my nearest grocer is 20 miles away i have a set of metal shelves for a pantry. if you don't have space for shelves...plastic roll under the bed boxes work. i buy when its on sale...

you can get a set of bed risers about 6 inches tall to increase the space under the beds. i have storage shelves in my closets- metal wire squares
that connect to each other with a round fastener, you can make any configuration you need.

keep a calendar in a central location. note school events, dentist appointments etc where all can see it.

In your closets, go up. Yes you may need a stool or ladder to get up to the shelves, but things you don't use often, or seasonal are great up there. Put seasonal clothes in the bags you vacuum out the air and they will take much less space high on a shelf or under the bed. They are waterproof, so they could even go in the garage or stored on a shelf in the basement.

I second Nancy. Remember to use space that goes to the ceiling. In your kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms etc. Here is a tiny space in my house that shows such storage. This is over a toilet and goes to the ceiling. The mirrors "expand" the small space.

Try shoe pouches to be placed on the rear and side walls of the closet, be sure to purge all unused items that have not been worn in a year. Use under the bed for storage or the night stand.
