I just received a brand new RED 3 tier wire basket in the mail. I didn’t realize how red and shiny it would be. And it looks awful. my kitchen is painted old farmhouse red. This new item is rather large and really stands out. What can I do to make it not so red and definitely not so shiny. I bought it for fruit on the counter. Help!!!

try sanding it a bit or if that doesn't work look for a matte spray paint that more closely matches your kitchen and repaint it.

yes, just be sure to seal it with a crystal clear Poly (comes in a spray can ) ... may not even need to sand -- just use a deglosser like 'KrudCutter' or Jasco to give you a good surface to repaint

Use Rustoleum 2X spray paint to change the color

take a wire brush to it to expose the metal underneath- try to 'rust' it by dipping in a solution of salt/vinegar after - if it's not steel it won't 'rust' ... try to stick a magnet to it to see...

Distress it with an electric sander to tone it down

    Thanks so much!!

sure! just make sure all sanding dust is removed and wipe down with damp towel - let dry before painting. I would suggest a couple coats if you want complete coverage. Good luck!

If you don't want to paint, maybe weave a ribbon through the mesh depending on how wide the holes are in the mesh.
