I have made curtains from sheets also in the past.... once I did a whole wall in them.
Another thing you can use for rods, are go to the lumber store and buy closet wooden dowel, then buy a couple fancy wooden finial for the ends. https://www.amazon.com/Ball-Finial-Mahogany-finish-dowel/dp/B002CYANS6/ref=sr_1_2?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1523924835&sr=1-2&keywords=curtain+dowel+ends
Another thing I've used for clients who needed a really long whole wall rod, is rigid plumbers pipe and I simple used cafe curtain brackets to hold them up using plastic wall anchors where there is no stud to screw into. You can spray paint or use contact paper to cover them.
