There are some really cute tire planters on pintrest. I saw one a few weeks ago that looked like a coffee cup. Really cute. They put a medium size tire on the bottom, and placed a large tire on top of that. They cut up a third tire to make a long strap that they used as the coffee cup handle. Painted the whole thing in blue with yellow polka dots. Place some big items in the tires so that it won't take so much soil. Empty milk gallon jugs would make a great filler. Then add soil and put your plants in it. Best of luck to you.
