Yes, spray paint is an excellent choice, just make sure it is clean and dry before you start. Wipe down with rubbing alcohol before you start. So many colors to choose from too.
Rustoleum has some nice hammered metal paints, metallic paints, and there are granite paints also. I like to get those little cans of model car paints, the German ones come in 50 colors and are superfine mist. Then I pick a couple metallics, put down a base coat then run some mist color over your base in a couple metallics for galaxy type look
Stick stamps from around the world on it maybe?
Spray paint in a sheen or metallic of your choice additional highlights could be accomplished with rubnbuff.
Your globe base looks like metal. I'd sand it with a low grade san paper, to get the imperfections off. Cover the globe an spray paint the stand. Next, in the four sections put miniature items in each section, such as a little boat, a lighthouse, seahorse, or any theme you like, this would look nice.
contact paper from the dollar store. comes in a variety of colors. wash the base and dry well first.
First remove the sticky stuff with Goo Gone or another adhesive remover. I’d spray the base with a base color like antique bronze. Then I would highlight the four “arrows” with a goldmetalic pen and put N, E, S, W, in the flat sections to resemble a compass. Show us when you finish it 😊
Whatever you do, clean it first
Absolutely clean all sticky residue. I would get some very thin leather scrapsIf not from goodwill pocketbooks, online “scraps”. Maybe make a pattern with paperbags first, then a research the best glue.
Would a leather base not look fabulous?
You can use gold, silver, or copper leaf.
Rub n buff is a waxy type of finish applied with your finger.
For example here is a gold thrift store painting I made over. I wanted a pewter or nickel finish with an aged patina. I spray painted the frame a silver metallic. I washed some thined watery black acrylic and applied that lightly. Finally I put some Rubnbuff on the elevated gooves for more highlights and add another layer of patina.
I’ve used Rub n buff on picture frames, bronze statues and pewter candlesticks. It’s a waxy rub on that worked well for my needs. It can lighten or darken.
Have a look at the website possible color options, reviews Q&A to to see if it’s a product you might wish to consider.
