You don't need a primer when you use chalk paint. It covers beautifully. Just wipe it down before you start to paint to get any grease or dirt off. If you have a scratch in an area sand it down lightly.

Can you paint over Chalk Paint with latex paint?
The answer is apparently YES. I have read that chalk paint takes 30 days to cure. So if you paint over right away the base is fragile. I personally would sand and prime instead. But here is a link that may help. Good luck http://www.thepurplepaintedlady.com/2014/06/can-i-paint-over-chalk-paint-later-if-i-change-my-mind-about-the-color/
Why not just use some Kilz or Zinseer primer and then your paint, thats what its made for. Used to prevent bleed through or stain or wood sap, and prevents chipping. You can buy in 1 quart cheaper than chalk paint.
I'm guessing you have a chalk wall and want to paint over it. Thanks for the question...I am now ready to paint a wall with chalk paint knowing it will be easy to cover when I want to change it!
Yes, you can paint over chalk paint. If it's been waxed, you will need to remove the wax first.
