The easiest way to learn the macramé knots is to get a book at the library, book store, or craft store. This way you have a reference that will guide you on how to do knots that you can reference until you are familiar with it. The most important thing in macramé is equal tension on all knots to a uniform look and size. I'm sure u tube has many videos on macramé knots, too.
Talk to a Scout leader. The kids could get credit for a "community service", you would have a great chance to connect with kids, and it's always better to learn things in a hands-on situation.
