How do I attach legs to large tray?
I have a very large, heavy, oval silverplated butler’s tray that I want to attach metal legs to, to make an end table or small coffee table. I don’t know how to attach them to the metal. It measures 28-1/4” across. It’s still pretty tarnished but am getting it cleaned up. Thanks!

Hi Melanie, Unfortunately to attach the metal legs to the metal tray the best way would be to weld them on. You can try various glues but unless it really isn't going to be used, it will not hold overly well. It is a gorgeous tray!!
Hi Melanie
If you attach metal legs you will need an apron or base otherwise the screws will come through the tray and will be visible on top. Here is more info to help you with your project:

JB Weld will work. They make a two part epoxy and a stick called Steelstik.
Hi Melanie, You could always buy metal type glue and glue the legs on your tray.
Hello,
Best way would to make a table and stick the tray to it! That way you will not see any fixings, or you could try No More Nails!
My hubby is a JB Weld person. We always have some on hand.

Hi! I would probably go to Michaels and get an oval piece of wood. You could superglue (maybe after painting it black?) it on to the bottom (especially because a beautiful tray like this would never go in the dishwsasher.)
I think all needs to be welded or if you add some wooden bottom to the back of your try to add some thickness and something to drill on it may actually work
Thank you! I actually was able to find someone who could weld metal legs on it for me so I think I’m going to try that
This is very cool. The tray is mounted on an old stool. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/434738170251665328/
You need something like a tv cart stand then lay the tray on it they actually have tray tables like that you should look for some at gorge sales then just paint it and add your tray
Hi Melanie, drill holes through the tray where you wan to put the legs and use screws to attach legs. thew screws should barely be noticable
You could try a metal epoxy but know it won’t be incredibly sturdy. You could drill through the tray to secure the legs but obviously that damages the tray unless you put something over that.
Use JB Weld or have them physically welded on.
Gluing them on would seem to be the easiest method. My had used to tell me that JB Weld could fix anything.
