One tip that is trending now is to use toothpaste. Makes sense—it is mildly abrasive and washes clean. If the film is on the outside it should come clean. If it’s on the inside, the vacuum seal is broken and you may need a new headlight eventually. ☺️

Helli! Vinegar and baking soda work well to keep headlights ckean. Vinegar has acidity to break down the grime and baking soda has the grittiness to do the same job as toothpaste. Auto parts stores also sell headlight restore solution, fairly cheap, that you may up to purchase. However, any one of the solutions mentioned will work unless the film comes from inside the lamp. Then, as Jewell mentioned, it’s time to replace. Good luck!

Rust-oleum actually has a product on the market to clear foggy headlights and it is under $10

If the toothpaste idea doesn't work or the vinegar, I may opt for this. I don't want to damage my headlights.

Toothpaste is a waste of time. It does not last at all. You actually need to clean with superfine sand paper 3000, 2000 and 1500. Use rubbing compound in between. Wet the sandpaper and make SURE you tape off all around the lens so you do NOT scratch the paint or headlight bracket around it.

Hi Barb, most Auto Parts stores carry a polishing product or system just for acrylic headlights... Turtle Wax and most of the other major brands of car wax have one.... just follow the directions. You can also use a small dab of toothpaste (the non-gel kind) on a damp cloth and gently rub it in a circular motion.
