Pull out your owners manual. If you do not have it, you can easily look up on line. I would also give the customer service number a call too.
Does the manual have instructions on cleaning the gasket? I usually just bend mine all over the place when I clean it, but I don't know if that's the best idea. I was told by the guy that installed my washer, to run an empty cycle using tang (yes the drink mix). He said that's what he does. I've never done that though. I'll be checking back to see what others have said.

If it is not accessible without removing the door and it is really bad, either remove and replace the door yourself, or call in an engineer to assist....
Tooth brushes help, as does a rag wrapped around a table knife. It is like cleaning the gasket on your fridge. If you have mold or mildew in the crevices, spritz them with vinegar to help kill the spores and let it dry to work the best. I don't have a front load washer for that reason, I hear too many people complain about the gasket and the smell.
