Ask your LOCAL nursery... but I would think... and GOOD quality garden soil would work.... think about planting your strawberries in the holes in concrete blocks... looks good and keeps the berries out of the dirt.

If you are using a strawberry planter, potting soil 5/6 and a 1/6 sand. If you are growing in the ground, 1/4 sand to 3/4 garden soil. Don't expect very many berries the first year, but as they spread you will get lots! You need to cover with a raised bird netting, or you will see them, and never get to taste them.
