I buy foam from any craft store. You can use a simple box cutter to cut out the size you need. Using outdoor fabric is best, but there are so many fabrics you can find that are easy to clean in the washer.

Measure the seat of the chair and add 2" all round to allow for filling and seam allowance.. Cut x 2 and stitch up on wrong side leaving room for Stuffing or Pad. Turn in right way and fill. Close opening by tucking in and invisible stitching. Should the cushion be a bit big, add a button in centre which should help. If not enough , stitch in a little way from edge all round to get it right.
In addittion to the above, wrap the foam in some poly batting for extra cushioning. Without batting, you will have a flat cushion in the shape of the foam.
upholstery/fabric centers sell preformed foam -- rounds, squares, etc. then just cover with the material of your choice - but pick something that is good for outdoor weather -- usually a nylon type fabric ..
save a few steps and buy the preformed shapes then cover with fabric l. You could use a shower curtain
Hi Janet! You can use both. If you use the indoor foam you can use 'outdoor fabric' which is usually waterproof. At least the outdoor fabric I've purchased. If using regular fabric, I always add a plastic backing. But I sew. Thanks for the FYI.
Easiest way is to go to a material store and choose a foam cushion. Measure your chair. Depends on if you want it to look fancy or pleated. From that stand point you need to fold in pleated fashion pinnin as you go in equal pleats. After you get the top side pinned, turn it over. Take the easy way. Twist the material. Put a nice flat button over where you twisted the material.
