remove food source; some ants go for sweets, some go for grease; I use white vinegar as a counter 'wipe' after preparing meals -- every time!
Sprinkle Jiffy cornbread mix near the colony if you can find it, sometimes that can be tough, or at least around the outside area where your kitchen is located. They take it back to the colony. Safe and harmless to pets.
Yes - what Landshark said. Ants are looking for food and water. Keep dishes washed. Wipe counters off after use and make sure everything is clean and dry.
You say "black ants"...are they rather large? Like 1/4" to 1/2". I agree, GROSS! If so, you may have carpenter ants. These are tough to get rid of, but not impossible. Try to find a common area they return to. This will be the general area of their colony. There are carpenter and ant poisons in aerosol cans with "straws" to attach to the nozzle to inject the content of the can into the void the ants are using to access their colony. Rather long-winded answer if these aren't carpenter ants!
Take the dog outside and at Home Depot or Lowe’s you can purchase ant bombs to set off. Couple hours out of house they leave no after aroma
