I doubt that your spray dye idea will result in an even dye job. I'd suggest buying a large plastic or metal garbage can. Then use the hottest water possible to dissolve the dye (if powder) and as hot a mixture as possible as you add more water and mix well, then add your comforter and use a broom or mop handle to stir and keep the comforter submerged in the dye for as long as needed. It will be a big job to get the comforter wrung out and rinsed. You may be able to rinse with a garden hose. Good luck!
If you decide to try the garden sprayer, I'd think adding a good amount of white vinegar might help the dye to "take". A friend did this but chose to have a "splatter" design rather than attempting to dye it solid.
You will not get an even dye job.
That is going to be hard to do. Maybe you could use your tub. If it's a porcelain tub I don't think it will stain but I would check a spot before I tried it in the tub
Have you investigated the possibility of buying or making a duvet cover? You won't have to worry about dying something as gigantic as a king-size comforter, or about dye coming off on your other bedding.
I’m ok with rinsing the Dye Solution off with a garden hose on the clothesline outside, air drying and then taking to a laundromat for a proper washing.
I’m told that adding vinegar or salt will help the dye take. Also was thinking 3 drops of soap would break the surface tension. What do you think?
