Lisa on May 09, 2014The flowers resemble a lilac; perhaps a Korean lilac? In my experience, Korean Lilacs are shorter than other varieties. It seems to be in some distress, as the leaves are wilting. Is it scented (lilacs have a strong scent)?Helpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on May 10, 2014I think Lisa is on the right track. It looks like it could be Syringa villosa to me, and I agree that is suffering from drought or other type of stress.Helpful Reply

Karen on May 10, 2014Thanks for the replies. I was thinking lilac too but the flower has no scent and the leaves are quite a bit bigger than your typical common lilac. This picture was taken 2 years ago when the flowers were dying off, which is why it looks sad...you should see it now, just coming into bloom, beautiful! I'd like to find more to purchase, haven't seen them anywhere.. Thanks again.Helpful Reply

Margie on May 10, 2014@Karen could you possibly take a current photo of the whole plant and close-ups of the bloom and of the leaves... it might help with identification. I am thinking that you might be able to take softwood cuttings after the blooms fade and root your own new plants... or if you can pin some of the branches to the ground after scuffing the outside of the stem first ...it's worth a try. Does anyone else have some suggestions?Helpful Reply
