Good luck!
Map out on graph paper what you would like to do to scale if you can. You can do it a portion at a time according to your budget so that you can afford to do what you want to do to make it the way you want it done and not have to compromise. Perhaps starting with any garden areas that you want to add. Make sure you have the tools you need before you start.
Please, not gravel. Everyone who walks on it brings it into the house and scratches any floor.

These are recommendations for SC groundcovers. Lots more available on the web. I would get some pavers that work with your front, spray the area with some vinegar, lay down some heavy landscape fabric and make a little “patio” just for potted flowering plants
Don’t cover your yard in gravel. It’s unsightly and will significantly lower the value of your house. Instead, create garden spaces and landscape with xeriscape plants and mulch.
I’ve seen people in my community mulch a substantial area of the lawn. While it relieves you from mowing -the lawn the mulch needs to be reapplied replenished and often weeded the only downfall to the lawn removal.
