We want to put a screen door on our front entrance door but the handle sticks out too far. How do I build it out for installation? Thanks in advance

  • Bump it out by retrimming the door around the frame. Maybe 2×4s, how much room do you need for the knob to clear?

2x3's would be fine. Make sure you use construction adhesive and countersink the screws. Also make sure they are plumb.

Is this a new door? Will your screen door have a window in it? Heads up if the answer is yes to both. We were told by a door manufacturer that our warranty would be voided if we put a screen door on ours, due to heat build up.

Hi here in Canada, many people call "storm doors" screen doors as well, since the window is left open or removed entirely during warm months. With those kinds of doors, the heat builds up from the sun when the window is on or closed.
