I am not professional, but I would start with purchasing a few cabinets and after you decide what colors you want to use, paint the cabinets and walls. That would be my first step.
Start by decluttering the countertops. Look into a shelf or microwave cart to house microwave and blender and put the rest away. No matter what you do to your kitchen if you counters are cluttered it will look bad.
I'd decide if you want to add upper cabinets or shelves for storage? I can't see the rest of the kitchen? Painting can make a HUGE difference. I'd look at Habitat for Humanity Stores for lumber, cabinets, lighting, a sink (if you want a cast iron one), window blinds. Thirst store and yard sales are great too! You could change the window up with simple fabric. You can check my blog http://littlehomesteadinboise.blogspot.com/2016/07/kitchenbath-re-do-one-year-later.html for ideas, or this blog has one of my all time fave re-dos- http://www.2littlesuperheroes.com/2014/07/kitchen-makeover-just-paint.html/ Good luck!
I have gotten a sink off the street, a huge window at a yard sale, lots of freebies at our town transfer station. Some areas are more re-cycling than others. Our town is great that way.
My advice to make a super easy, stunning change is installing upper shelving. I got the shelving and brackets at Ikea and stained the wood darker and sealed it well. I don't know if you have an Ikea nearby. You can get wood and brackets all over though, I just liked the Ikea ones because everything was sold together and was pre-drilled. It really was a major change for little money. Later on I did another project when we had to replace the cabinets which were cheap builder grade. We had the peninsula cut off, and I bought an old buffet to use to make a moveable island. Painted it with chalk paint to match the new cabinets, and slapped on a butcher block top from a home store. If I scooted it out of the way it visually doubled the look of the small kitchen.
