Try scrubbing the line with a pumice stone. When I saw my housekeeper doing it on my new (ish) toilet, I was afraid it would get scratched, but it didn't! Now she does it every few months and my toilets stay virtually line-free!
try putting white vinegar and baking soda in the tank and the bowl allowing to stay overnight, use a pumice stone, try plain cole, kool aid
Try bleach
try coco cola
Muriatic acid. Just pour it on and let it sit for awhile then scrub. Rubber gloves a must.
Hell Judy, I agree few toilet bowl cleaners are not always great for this. I do know bleach, left for 30 mins then brushed will work. I hate & am allergic to bleach so I use white vinegar around the bowl, then pour in a half cup baking soda. This will fizz, leave 30 minutes & then scrub ... hey presto!! Another recommendation is Coca Cola. My experience is that it is no good for this! Good Luck Honor.

Rub with sandpaper.
Also try The Works toilet bowl cleaner. It melts off hard water stains.
The thin one. Not a thicker brand they made.
