A sensored sprinkler head spraying th deer when they are in area maybe a scarecrow
deer have adaptive behaviors -- once they figure out that there is no 'real' threat, they'll be back -- scent products work the same way -- they don't like it, but eventually come to realize that it's not going to hurt them and 'get used to it' ... the motion activated sprinkler might work for a few times, but I'd bet that the 'startle' effect would soon wear off. Something that is a real threat -- a fence and a dog!
Human hair sprinkled around the area will help keep the deer away. Ask any beautician for hair they have tons of it.
