First tell the mower to do the job or you will find someone else. Just about the only way to keep deer away is fencing or netting.

  • First, fire your gardener. You are paying for a service. They don't get to pick and choose what they will or will not do. You are the boss.

See if these help you with the deer.

Where I live, we only had an occasional deer wander through here and there. Since the massive fires in the past 2 years around me, we now have an influx of deer that fled. So these help me too!

Tell mower "you that hate that you are paying him for a half a**ed job", he needs to do it correctly without damaging shrubs or trees or you will get someone that wants to work ; & as Valleycat1 said fencing or netting OR get either human hair or dog hair from beauty salon &/or groomers/vet and place around your Dogwood trees put it in mesh bags like onions come in and hang in trees.try the hair first it's free before buying fencing

Gee my small herd of deer don't touch my dogwood, spray something like orange or citrus oil in a water squirt bottle on the bark. Compromise with the gardener, get him to weed and cut around the tree, put some landscape fabric down around the base out 1.5 feet, and then put down bark or gravel.... this will also reduce the need to water as much also.

Form larger plant bed around your tree. Under plant it with plant the deer don't like!

Deer dislike sage, you might want to plant that.

  • You might be able to add a decorative fence around the trunk of the Dogwood or get a mesh trunk wrap. They sell them online.

Perhaps you should look into getting a gardner that will do their job the way you want it. You are paying them so they should want to make you happy.

I have seen people use wire to make a circle to surround the tree but make it so you can easily take it apart to move when you want to mow.
