If you have snakes in your basement, get an exterminator out for an inspection. Then plug holes or screen off = no more snakes. Here are some ways go keep snakes away:

If you have a fenced yard, look into snake fencing.
As with all things, ignorance breeds fear, learn about them so that you are not so terrified. They are great for the environment, you just need to know which ones are actually dangerous. I relocate rattlesnakes and get calls all the time for help.
We use Snake Repel. You sprinkle it around any areas that you have seen snakes and they will go away. We get a lot of black snakes, we don't kill them, but I don't want them in the yard, and "Yes" for all you snake lovers out there, I know they are a good snake to have around...unless your terrified of snakes. This stuff works great. BUT if it rains, you must reapply if you see them again.
Apparently my answer turned up as a question...oops!!!

Sprinkle ground cloves all around foundation or wherever you may have seen snake. They hate it. If you kill one but doesn't matter. There are a ton more. Good luck. (You can buy large containers. Of ground cloves in dollar store). You may have a nest if it keeps coming back.
I understand how you feel. I am terrified on snakes. I have put a link for you to check out but don't worry no pictures. By the way my neighbors have all heard my scream many times when I see a snake and I don't care how little it is I hate them!
Get a husband who isn’t afraid of snakes who has no problem relocating snakes from your home/yard.
