Depends on what plant it is. It might need more or less water or sun, it might need more or less fertilizer, it might need different soil. Your library is a good source.
What type of houseplant? Some need sun, some do well with filtered light. May need to be reported or fertilized. If you can tell us what you have we can offer better suggestions.
It's probably through flowering for the year. Gradually introduce it to the sun (hardening out) and then plant it in the yard, probably close to where people will see it when they are walking past.
