Hi Sue,
You didn't say what kind of garden or what kind of plants however my suggestion would be to look at the label of the fertilizer appropriate for your garden. I hope that helps. Wishing you the best.
Depends on what fertilizer you are referring to. Read the label. :)
You should have your soil analyzed to determine what it needs for what you want to grow. Just throwing fertilizer on it may help and it may harm your plants.
Always go by the instructions on the back of the label. Use all purpose or something specific to your certain flowers. Use a tomato/vegetable for your vegetable garden and only water the roots, don't foliar feed your vegetables or you will get great plants and little produce.
Follow the instructions on what ever fertilizer you are using. You could also dissolve one tablespoon of Epson Salt in a gallon of water. This process puts enzymes into the soil and plants (vegetable or flower) flourish with it. Repeat every two weeks.
I recommend using a liquid fertilizer like Miracle Fro every 2 weeks.
Use a fertilizer with a high middle number (5-10-5) for most plants in a garden. Phosphorus helps plants form flowers which turn into tomatoes, peppers, squash, okra, beans, etc. A high first number is better for greens as nitrogen stimulates leaf growth. Overall though, you don't want really high numbers. A granular fertilizer with 12-12-12 is high enough because too much fertilizer can overdose your plants.
