Clean with TSP. Paint with acrylic latex in an enamel finish. Prime first.
What do use if they are Formica.
I used chalk paint with polycrylic sealer. Used krudkutter first to remove the grease. 18 months and counting with no issues
I prefer to prime with oil based Kilz and then paint with oil based paint.
