Here's an article I've been saving: http://homeguides.sfgate.com/instructions-starting-compost-bins-78355.html
Could start with a Circle of chicken wire. Fill it with Veg peelings - Grass cuttings - Newspaper - Prunings - Coffee Grouts etc. in layers if poss. It will eventually rot down and be usable..............
I bought a compost unit form Gardeners Supply. it looks like a giant acorn and can be rolled around instead of being mixed with a fork. do as the guys above say too about what to stack in it.
This is a great composting 101 that shows you the how, why, step by step, etc. Good luck! Composting is fun! Hugs, Holly

I use the worm bins. It is great for apartment dwellers. It is clean and easy and the wormsreproduce. I give the tea to my friends who have plantsand sometimes I give a handful of the compost worms and all and they start their own. I seldom use my garbage disposer and hardly have any food stuff in the trash. Been doing it for many years. The kits come with everything you need and great instructions. Mine in on my terrace and lately I discovered a nest of lizards in one corner which keeps the bugs down to a manageable amount.
