Random Trees growing up in bushes

How do I get rid of or stop random weird looking trees from growing in my hedges. We have cut them down as far down to the root as we can without causing harm to the hedges.

I was told that if you kept cutting down as low as you can eventually they will die off. Without digging and potentially hurting your hedges you don't have a lot of options

There is a product that you can brush on the stump that will keep it from regrowing. I don't remember the name of it, but you could ask at a garden center and they shoud be able to tell you. It's a blue liquid, and it works well.

Try to find them when the tree seeds are falling, or right after they germinate and are really small and easy to pull. If you use a weed killer and paint it on the stump only close to the ground, it will get into the tree roots and shouldn't affect your hedges. Reapply if you see any new growth, as it may take a while to get all the way into the roots to kill them. I have very mature, huge elms, maple and birch, so I have a constant battle until almost July every year with germinated tree seeds in my gardens.
