Soap and water gets rid of fleas, but your yard is probably infested and there lies the problem. When we lived in the south we got fleas in our yard from birds and stray cats. We put Sevin dust all over it and ten days later again for any eggs that hatched. This solved it. The key is to do it when no rain is expected for that long. We bathed our dogs daily until we no longer had any in the yard too. Working at both ends stopped the problem
What ever product or mixture you use.... just be aware that EVERYTHING needs to be treated the first time... the dog, cat, carpet, bedding, furniture and yard.... some things will need to be treated again in 7 days (to get the new hatch)... and again periodically during peak flea and tick season.
