Cheap alternatives for outdoor daybed swing mattress

by Mary
I'm converting a hammock into an outdoor swing daybed, but am shocked at how expensive the outdoor swing daybed mattresses are (mostly around $500-$800!) What are some cheap alternatives for someone who doesn't know how to sew? It will be outside - not even under a porch - so I need it to be unharmed by water.

Unless you want to spring fora vinyl cushion, you have to protect it from the elements. A bench seat cushion for outdoors should run about 10-40 dollars. Even Sunbrella fabric is not weatherproof. You have to bring it inside or get a large plastic sheet and glue the ends to make a bage for it.

But the swing is 48” x 72”. You can’t find a bench cushion for that!

Use a standard twin mattress. Just cover it with something to make it water proof. Here is a site that walks you thru the construction:

Can you use some other mattress or piece of foam and enclose it in a zippered plastic covering? Then of course you'd need a nice fabric covering.

Consider lashing a bunch of dollar store noodles together like a raft. Cover with old tent silk or a shower curtain held together with Velcro, since you don’t

sew. Just make the appropriate size tube/pillowcase for it. You could also use a foam pool float.

    Just a thought.

it’s not pretty, but what about a blowup mattress or water raft? Or, individual seat cushions put together?
