Depends on the use of the area -- 20 Mule Team Borax swept into the cracks in the concrete will kill the grass.. I'd build a pergola with the top slats angled to provide shade in the hottest parts of the summer ... you can get help here -- https://morningchores.com/pergola-plans/ but the angle of the top need to take into consideration the position of the sun at the hottest part of the day/summer. -- your local meterologist ( weather man) can help you with this .

Pergola, or what we do in PNW is 4x4 posts in anchors on concrete posts, and a polycarbonate roof - clear or smoke for UV protection..... https://www.google.com/search?q=pictures+of+porch+with+polycarbonate+roof&client=opera&hs=FQP&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjopL747tvbAhXQJDQIHVblBkMQ7AkIggE&biw=1473&bih=701
I would kill that grass cracking your patio and repair the concrete before you have to replace it.
