Would it devalue my fireplace to paint it out in white? It is currently gray brick.
We have built-ins on either side of our gray brick fireplace, and I would love to paint the fireplace out in white. However, my husband feels it would be a bad idea.

Get a roller brush that is made for brick type surfaces. (around $6-8 in the local hardware stores) and masonry paint (around $22-32 per gallon) and simply roll it on. Two to three coats should be sufficient.
I think that your fireplace would look wonderful in a gray or white.
Hope this helps.
Oh that brick is really cool but if you don’t like it, you don’t. You’ll need a very thick napped roller cover though you’ll still likely need a brush to reach the mortar.
