Just standard potting soil. If that is too pricey. Mix potting soil with a bag of top soil.
use garden soil for the necessary amendments, not potting soil
lettuce can do well in pretty much any soil.
I use a mixture of mostly raised garden bed soil (different from garden soil) with a bit of potting soil and my lettuces grow well -- but lettuce isn't too picky :-)
