Could be - might be going blind. 35 years is not old for a mirror but it depends on exposure. You can have re silvered, but that can get expensive.
i have some old mirrors and i use a steam cleaner and coffee pot filters. the ones from the dollar tree work the best because they don't leave any lint behind. hope this helped. i also use my steam cleaner on windows, appliances, glass in picture frames, sinks, faucets, and anything i can think of!

A mirror is just glass with a coating behind it. The quality changes with the thickness and type of glass, and the coating. Moisture between the glass and backing can degrade the clarity, as well as the hardness of the water you have, etc. MIght be time to search for old mirror projects..... Local glass shop might be able to cut you a replacement.
The silver backing could be fading. Try to look at it from the side with a flashlight. If it's the clear glass, you can tell that way. If it's the backing, you might need to get it resilvered.
