How To Remove Burned On Foil

I did the classic move of lining the bottom of my new oven with foil, not realizing that the hidden heating element in the bottom would cook the foil to the floor of my oven. Now, after much online research, I managed to get most of the foil off of the oven, but there is a teflon coating left behind. I'm sure it's because I used the nonstick foil. (Ironic, isn't it?) Does anyone have any idea how to get this coating off? I am hoping there is someone else out there who has been through this learning curve already.

Scrape what you can. You may need to cover it with a damp towel for overnight to try and work it loose. I've also used a paste of baking soda and vinegar to loosen a stubborn area.

I clean all my racks with ammonia. put enough in to keep it moist for about 12 hours and I think it will loosen it.

Hi: I agree with Terri, I even have used newspaper because it's bigger than a paper towel. Good luck! I've been leery of those non stick "protectors" you can buy to put in the bottom of the oven, too.

This is not one of those non-stick protectors, this is aluminum foil. I have used the non-stick protectors and I love it. After years of use, I finally replaced it with another. So easy to remove and wash off any spills. Just don't want to see it get a bad rap. I do remove it if I want to turn on the self-cleaning feature, as I'm not sure if it could take that extreme temperature - which I rarely do.

I was a property manager and cleaned my share of ovens, you can use a straight edge razor scraper and scrape as much of the foil off as possible, if anything remains use a pumice stick/stone, it will take off the foil, burnt on everything and won't scratch the enamel. It will also clean racks with out discoloring the metal. They work awesome

Look on the box for the foil for a phone number... call the manufacturer of the foil and ask them how to remove it.... good luck!

I would spray it with a cleaner de-greaser and let it stay wet for a few hours or overnight. Then clean with paper towels and a magic eraser.

Did you use a reputable brand-name foil, and did it say on the box that it was recommended for use in the bottom of an oven?

All foils, and all silicone heat resistant or non-stick mats are not equal thickness and density. Unless it says on the outside packaging the actual temperature (F or C degrees) it is rated for, they cannot be trusted to not disintegrate or melt.

Try a plastic scrubby not to scratch
