I’m not sure what you mean by spaces between concrete, but if you are talking about spaces of about 1” that would be for expansion and contraction. If this is the case, professional concrete workers put strips in those gaps. This keeps the concrete from cracking. You can call out a company to fix that for you.
Those are stress cracks. If the concrete shifts ore moves it's made to crack along those lines. some contractors use wood, fiber planks, or foam tubing. Check with any homecenter and see what they have available and decide what you want to use.
sharp sand in the expansion joint, its different than play sand. when you go to pick it up, specify the sharp.
It looks to me as if the concrete slabs were not laid down close enough together in the first place. They also do not seem to me to be laid straight, as the piece of red color wood in the one picture is definitely not equal width. Is the ground beneath the slabs level? What is underneath supporting the pieces from shifting on sinking?
Hello there,
If you are not happy how they look, sprinkle Small Grade Grit or Shingle into them or Glass Chippings or soil with rock plant seeds in. Or Water the gaps and us a fill Dry Mortar Mix.
Those are expansion joints, purposely for freeze thaw movement. You can hire someone or cut, home depot, lowes any hardware store carries could of like foam roping and cement caulk. Clean out the space of weeds, grass, put the roping in, then apply the caulking over it usually is self leveling. You shouldn't drive on it for a day or so. Hope that helps.
Those are not expansion joints. They are spaced equally as a pathway. There is now a new product improved polymeric sand product that would be perfect for this installation, check around with your local rock/brick/paver companies. It stays put much better than the older formulations.
If you just moved them closer together, you would not have so large of a gap in between. They might not even require any filling.
